American Demos Vol. VI, Full Moon Heart

By this last album in my series, American Demos, the homage to Harry Smith's anthology faded into a fascination with Dante's Divine Comedy.  Memories of the music of the late 1950s, early '60s were also in my mind.  By 1959, the initial rebellious first blooming of Rock 'n Roll had subsided into a new kind of Pop music.  It kept the big beat of Rock 'n Roll but it was neutered of all its threatening tendencies.  Love songs were just about the only type of song allowed on radio.   

So this is an homage to different types of love songs, and to the Pop radio heaven that AM radio of the early 1960s pretended to be.  It was a different America, much more innocent, hopeful, and happy than the times we now live in. These songs reflect a little of that heavenly innocence.
