She had to give it up, age of 17.
Has no idea what she's gonna do.
Gets an uncle to drop her off in Abilene,
Then she uses her thumb to get to Malibu.
She got just enough money for a bathing suit,
But it's just about the only thing she'll ever need.
She hits the beaches,

Turns the head of every guy 
When she says, "I

Need somebody?
So do I.

He is done driven' tractors and bailing hay.
Goes out west, he's heard about the surfing.
He wants to live his life in a different way.
There's nothing back home that he can work in.
When he catches her eye, she's laying in the sand
And he cannot believe what he is doing.
He gets so stupid.
He gets so bold.
He tries to talk to her
But can't even say "hello,"
Just stammers, "I

Need somebody, 
Yes I do, you
Need Somebody?
You know it's true.
You need somebody?
So do I.

Right at first they didn't have any money,
Oh but at least they had each other.
They were young and thought it kinda funny
That they looked like a sister and a brother.
Pretty soon they had a lot of friends and
In the blink of an eye, started up a family.
You fall in love,
You do what's right.
You never know what's going on till you figure out
You need somebody.
