1969: Headless Corpse is Vol. II of demos for david larstein song series Part IV, Epilogue Vol. II.  This is the twelfth album in a twelve part series of song cycles based on the second half of the twentieth century, 1949 - 1970.  All songs were written, performed, and produced by David Larstein.

In 1969 the space shoot was everywhere all year, the backdrop to all other earthly activity.

Now that the horrible 1968 election was over, with its cultural polarization that would last well into the next century, the moon shot provided the necessary distraction to take American minds off the useless, genocidal Vietnam war.  Young people, freaks or hippies, retreated in droves to the mountains, to rural regions, or went into themselves and began setting up small businesses.  Politics was pointless to them.  Getting on with life, being invisible, experimenting privately with new ideas for relationships, marriage, community, food, shelter, this was the response to a social and political climate that was hostile to cultural change.  

And in the backdrop was the Apollo space walk.  It carried the year past Woodstock and Altamont, past all the great rock music that was produced and performed.  It was the promise of the Kennedy years, and it happened.  At that point, the world began to see itself as a whole, and the idea of warring nation states began to seem more and more absurd.
