The Other Side
The Other Side a retelling of the murder ballad, "Willie Moore." In this song the murder and murderer are anonymous. The murderers whole life turns out to be as if it never was.
The Other Side
Now the heart cries out to heaven
for the blood within the vine.
It will take what it's been given
and give back again in kind.
She threw her arms around him
and she begged he set her free.
He said, "I'm sending you to heaven
where you'll no more torment me."
Forty years, past all the rumors,
Forty years, his hidden crime,
all his memories turned to shadows
from a far off distant time.
He lived life as if immortal,
could not tell that he had died.
So confused when he awakened
and was on the other side.
On this side, twas hardly noticed,
not a mourner, or a grave.
Was the wind a voice from heaven,
one last chance his soul to save?
Did she bless him with forgiveness?
Did her grace help save his soul?
Not for us the ways of heaven,
For we the living, it's all unknown.
Now the heart cries out in sorrow,
to the world its secrets die,
when it draws the final curtain,
when it's on the other side.
