Long Neck Gal
Inspired by the song the Butcher's Boy, a tragic ballad told from the point of view of a broken hearted girl, who hangs herself because her suitor has run off to the City. This version is from the viewpoint of the boy who leaves, goes to the city and returns only to be told she has died.
Long Neck Gal
1. She was a long neck gal,
An eternal spring,
A butterfly, a primitive,
Could make a song bird sing.
2. Long neck gal,
With her long red hair,
A butterfly, a primitive,
With a cold eyed stare.
3. It took all of my money.
La dolce vita bye bye,
All the kisses and honey love,
Gone dry dry dry.
4. It took all my money
Just to get back here,
To my long neck gal
With her long red hair.
5. When I told her I'm going
To the city of Veils,
The look in her eye
Said I hope you fail.
6. Oh the look in her eye,
She'd like to murder me.
"It's those big city, pretty gals,
You'll see, you'll see.
7. They rock you so hard,
And they'll rock you awake,
But your long neck gal
Best loving you'll ever make."
8. I bought her a necklace.
I gave her my ring.
I never knew why
I went and give her those things.
9. She tried to make me promise
With a yes or a no,
But I wanted that city life,
And I told her so,
Yes, I told her so.
10. Oh Long neck gal
With your long red hair
I'm comin' back home again,
Ain't goin' no never where.
11. Oh my Long Neck Gal
You're the beam in my eye
I can't get away from you
Our lovin' will never ever die.
12. Well, I drove to her house,
Her Father stood at the door,
Said she died last winter,
"Now don't be comin' here anymore."
13. I took off through the desert.
To the coast I drive,
And my long neck gal,
She never leaves my mind,
She never leaves my mind.
She never leaves my mind.
14. Oh my long neck gal
With your long red hair,
I can't get away from you,
So I'm takin' you everywhere.
So I'm takin' you everywhere.
15. My long neck gal,
My eternal spring,
A butterfly, a primitive
Make a dead man sing.
16. When I don't feel nothing
Sometimes I just scream,
And my long neck gal
She visits my dreams.
She will visit my dreams.
