Dragon of the City
Dragon of the City
He was the dragon of the city.
He had the key to the city banks,
and he lived in a cave made of solid gold
where all the suits bowed down and offered thanks.
He was the dragon of the city,
Breathing fire on all that gold,
And the coffers of the powerful and rich were full.
The city fathers did as they were told.
Potholes and trash, crime in the streets,
Jobs playing hard to get,
For the dragon, it's just getting hotter.
Hear him roar, "you ain't seen nothing yet!"
He was the dragon of the city.
They say he came from another land
Where he frolicked in the mist
With a little boy,
The only fun he ever really had.
It took a while, but the people rose up
Got rid of the dragon's schemes.
But there were rumors, and rumors over rumors.
Was the dragon real, or was it all a dream?
Now in the winter came the snowstorms,
And the rose buds bloomed in spring.
A better day had dawned,
But was the dragon gone,
Or was he simply waiting in the wings?
Was the dragon waiting in the wings?
