My instrumental response to the Indian modalities in George Harrison's "Love to You" is more East European than Indian, and while the sound of a tabla has now been assimilated into mainstream culture, the sitar has become a meme for dancing hippies smoking pot with flowers in their hair. Thus, the noble sitar is barely used at all these days, except in Bollywood movies and Indian pop music.

1966 was a year in which pop culture was much more interesting than politics.  2006 was simply an inconsequential year in which popular culture left almost no mark of influence due to the massive glut of product no one can remember now.   In fact, the only thing remembered is the unraveling of Bush's criminal war in Iraq.

Had he not heard of Jonathan Swift?

A cow is pulled down by fire ants,

eaten alive.
